Job Description



The Research and Development Engineer (R&D) focuses and capitalizes on innovation of potential new and existing products. The R&D Engineer designs and tests product concepts and improves existing products in collaboration with product engineering and other staff. The employee will create functional design concepts and test existing designs and supervise the implementation of development for projects. The R&D engineer must have technical design skills to create functional and attractive products that are cost-effective, meet industry standards that masterfully compete within the in plastics industry. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field is required. Base salary for the R&D Engineer is dependent on education, experience, and certifications.

 

Essential Position Functions and Responsibilities:

 

This position includes the following but is not limited to these essential functions:

 

  • Brings a focus to innovation, new product development and sustaining engineering initiatives to improve the Quality, Delivery and Cost, and sustainable competitive position of the product portfolio
  • Conducting market research and evaluating similar products and their functions
  • Collaboration and strategic input with operations, manufacturing, engineering and sales departments on product feasibility
  • Redesign existing products to enhance functionality and reduce cost
  • Analyzes and resolves product issues
  • Assures competitiveness and innovation of products and processes from a technological and design standpoint
  • Assess the scope of research projects and ensures project meet time constraints and budgets
  • Make rules and guidelines for the employees with focus on development of research
  • Prepare action plans, budgets, and allocation of resources
  • Formulates strategies and plans for research and product development
  • Encourages creativity – gives a voice to the employee on development and production
  • Manages all aspects of innovation, new product development process and sustaining engineering to deliver on-time and to budget new and updated products with exceptional quality which exceed the expectation of the customer
  • Monitor the quality of work being produced and compares it to industry standards meeting Quality standards
  • Ensure the internal and external scientific review process
  • Organize and ensure the quality of the documentation to be presented
  • Identify customer problems and create functional prototypes offering a solution
  • Perform analysis on competing products and brands
  • Analyze feasibility, cost, and return on investment for products

Requirements and Qualifications

 

  • Adheres to strict confidentiality of product, customer, and company signed agreements
  • Must be able to teach and mentor all categories and/or status of all employees
  • Out-of-the-box thinking and encouragement of driving for creative, marketable solutions
  • Marketing and design experience preferred
  • Excellent foresight and a vision for the research
  • Strong leadership and ownership
  • Analytical rigor and solid process management– Problem solving skills
  • Real market-orientation in defining the new projects to launch and a proven attitude in working strictly in relation with design, marketing, and product management
  • Excellent communication and leadership qualities
  • Excellent observation, analytical and managerial skills
  • Good financial sense
  • Bachelor’s in Engineering
  • Portfolio of successful past projects recommended
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work efficiently with minimal supervision
  • Creative and passionate about creating solutions to customer problems
  • Flexible to travel to suppliers or customers as required for the job
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards and market trends
  • Preferred 10 years’ experience in the related field

Contract to Direct

Monday through Friday

Pay=$33.65-$40.87/hr
